The RAM 1500 is a remarkable off-road truck with many awards, including the Best Truck Brand for its sheer strength and style. It performs exemplary well for an off-roader that also doubles as a daily driver.
Low-beam and high-beam headlights
The 2009-2012 RAM 1500 uses the H13 bulb for both the low and high-beam headlights. This is common where there are 2 Forward Lights. Models with 4 Forward Lights use the 9005m bulb for the high beam and the H11m bulb for the low beam.
The 2013-2015 model uses the 9005m for the high beams. They shift to the H11m bulb for the low beam, where there is a reflector headlight assembly and the 9012 bulb where there’s a projector assembly.
The 2016-2018 RAM 1500s come with the 9005m bulb size for the high beam and for low beams with a projector assembly. They stick with the H11m bulb on the low beams where there’s a reflector assembly.
Since 2019, the truck manufacturer has stuck to two types of bulbs – the 9005m for the high beams and the H11m for the low beams, no matter the configuration.
Fog Lights
The 2009-2012 RAM 1500 model years use an H10 bulb to light the fog lights. This works for all trucks, those with 2 forward lights and those with four forward lights. Things shake up a bit in the 2013-2018 model years.
Here, these RAM trucks are fitted with the H10 bulb where fog lights have a reflector headlight assembly and the 9006 bulb where there’s a projector assembly. Since 2019, the truck manufacturer has kept things standard. It has stuck with the H11 bulb no matter the specification.
Other RAM 1500 Bulb Sizes
For models built between 2009 and 2012, the RAM 1500 uses the 3157a bulb for the front turn signal lights. This changed in 2019 when the 7443r bulb was adopted as a replacement.
It’s also good to note that models made before 2012 use the 3157a bulb for the front turn signal, while the recent models use the 7443a bulb.
Additionally, the 2009-2012 RAM 1500 features a T15 bulb for its backup light. This changes for model years 2013-2018, which adopt a 7443b bulb for backup light setups with a projector assembly. They, however, retain the T15 for units with a reflector assembly. For newer models built after 2019, the RAM retains the 7443b bulb for all configurations.
On the other hand, the license plate light bulbs have remained consistent throughout. Since 2009, the truck has had the same T10 bulb. This also applies to the front side marker light.
The dome lights found in the 2019 RAM 1500 and other newer model years feature the 41mm bulb. The map lights adopt that same light bulb for the 2009-2018 mode years but change to the T10 bulb for the 2021 model year.
Which RAM models have LED headlights?
Most RAM 1500 models feature halogen headlights. This is especially true for the lower trim levels. However, you can upgrade to a package during the buying process that allows you to have LED headlights on your truck. This is, however, at an extra cost.
Higher RAM 1500 trims that feature LED headlights also provide the option of swapping to halogen headlights. This saves you some money during the purchasing process.
Can I Put LED Headlights in my RAM 1500?
You can retrofit your RAM 1500 with LED headlights. However, it is crucial to confirm that the LED headlights are suitable with your RAM 1500's specific make and model and that they are compliant with the regulations of your local area.
Additionally, you may need to acquire additional wiring or a LED headlight conversion kit to install the LED bulbs correctly. It would be best to seek the guidance of an experienced mechanic for the proper installation.
On That Note
In early 2022, the RAM 1500 Crew Cab was the only large pickup truck picked for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick Award. It had won three years in a row and this time, it was thanks to its adaptive LED projector headlamps that feature high-beam assist. The RAM 1500 won again in 2020 and 2021.
The High Beam Assist function is an option that can be found in some RAM trucks. It allows the vehicle to automatically switch between high and low-beam headlight settings depending on the presence of oncoming traffic or vehicles ahead. This feature aims to enhance the driver's visibility while minimizing the chance of glare that can temporarily blind other drivers on the road.
In most vehicles, the High Beam Assist uses a camera that is placed at the front. It detects the headlight of other vehicles and automatically switches the high beams to low beams when it detects oncoming traffic.
It subsequently switches back to high beams once the other vehicle has passed. This feature can be particularly advantageous for drivers who often drive on dark, rural roads or in areas with limited street lighting.
It can also be manually enabled or disabled and set to come on automatically when the vehicle is in certain driving modes, such as highway mode. The High Beam Assist is a convenient and practical feature that can improve the overall driving experience and enhance safety on the road.
